June 16, 2021 : Two Cases of Contraindication to Comirnaty

Comirnaty, SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine, seems to have more people with a past history of anaphylaxis coming to get a shot, than flu vaccine.
During the last two weeks in my workplace, already four cases of people with a past history of anaphylaxis have been confirmed, two are to contrast medium and the others are to Xylocaine.
PEG is included in both contrast medium and Comirnaty, so a past history of anaphylaxis to contrast medium is a major contraindication to Comirnaty, so I stopped the vaccination for them,
whereas a past history of anaphylaxis to Xylocaine is not a contraindication to this vaccine, so they got one dose and the observation period was extended from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
As for the flu vaccine, people with a medical history of anaphylaxis rarely come to get a shot (at least I can't remember a person with anaphylaxis history coming to get a flu shot so far),
but when it comes to the COVID vaccine, there are already four cases...does this mean that even though they have a history of anaphylaxis, they want to take a vaccine?
Looking at past anaphylaxis cases caused by Comirnaty in Japan, asthma seems to be the most common cause, and other allergies follow.
I realized again the importance of prolonging the observation period in cases with allergies.
